Ryle and Conner will play for the 33rd District volleyball championship at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at Conner High School in Hebron.
Both Boone County schools advanced to the title match with semifinal sweeps Tuesday, Oct. 20. Ryle beat Boone County 3-0, and Conner dispatched Cooper 3-0, according to LinkNKY's district tournament scoreboard.
Both finalists have already clinched berths in next week's eight-team 9th Region tournament and will land on opposite sides of that bracket, the Northern Kentucky Tribune reported. Thursday's winner takes the district trophy and enters the regional round as district champion.
Ryle is the defending 33rd District champion. The Raiders reached the 9th Region semifinals last season and opened the 2026 campaign ranked No. 18 in the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association (KVCA) preseason poll.
Conner, last year's district runner-up, started the season at No. 17 in the KVCA poll. The Cougars finished 26-10 in 2025 before falling to St. Henry 3-0 in the opening round of the 9th Region tournament.
The 9th Region's only returning first-team all-state player is Conner junior outside hitter Charlotte Patton. The 6-foot-2 hitter recorded 511 kills last season and finished 15th statewide in kills per set at 4.91, the Northern Kentucky Tribune reported in August.
She plays under Cougars coach Doug Rabe. Returning setters Shylyn Koerber and Alexis Kampsen combined for 909 assists last season.
"I would love to increase it … but I'm not really worried about the number as long as we go out there as a team and win some games," Patton told the Northern Kentucky Tribune in August when previewing her goals for the season.
The KVCA 9th Region preseason top five: No. 1 Notre Dame, No. 2 Beechwood and St. Henry (tie), No. 4 Ryle and No. 5 Conner. Ryle will try to advance past the regional semifinals this year. Conner aims to get past the first round.
The 9th Region tournament begins next week.
