A man was found shot in the hip on westbound Interstate 275 near Hebron early Tuesday, Oct. 20. The shooting triggered a roughly two-hour closure of the westbound lanes while Boone County sheriff's deputies investigated.

Deputies and fire crews responded around 3 a.m. to the westbound lanes just before the Idlewild Bypass, between Graves Road and State Route 3608, according to WLWT. The location sits near the Indiana border, a couple of miles from the Ohio River and close to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.

Responders found a vehicle on the right shoulder with the man inside, the Boone County Sheriff's Office told Fox 19. He had been shot in the hip.

He was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition, according to sheriff's officials.

The westbound lanes reopened at 5:24 a.m. after being shut down for the investigation, Fox 19 reported.

A WLWT camera crew driving past in the eastbound lanes observed a vehicle perpendicular to the highway in a ditch off the westbound side. Deputies on scene focused on that vehicle, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.

Authorities have not said where the shooting occurred or what led up to it. No suspect information has been released. A Boone County Sheriff's Office spokesman described the incident in a press release emailed to media as "concerning a person who was shot on I-275 this morning," according to Fox 19.

The sheriff's office has not disclosed whether anyone else was involved or whether the shooting happened on the highway itself or at another location. Detectives are working to establish a motive.
