Cooper locked up its third consecutive regular-season district championship Friday, Oct. 16, rolling past Scott 35-7 in Union.

The Jaguars improved to 6-2 and secured the top seed in Class 5A, District 5, according to LINK nky. The title extends a district winning streak that stood at 10 consecutive games after a Sept. 25 win over Conner, according to the NKY Tribune. Cooper has won two more district games since.

Head coach Adam Begley has been with the program since 2014. "Game plan was to take what they gave us," Begley said after Cooper's Oct. 2 district win over Dixie Heights, a philosophy that carried the Jaguars through the district slate.

Cooper travels to Boone County in Week 10 to close district play.

Scott fell to 2-6 and hosts Conner in Week 10 with the district's No. 3 seed on the line.

Ryle defense smothers Great Crossing

Ryle's defense continued its October surge, holding Great Crossing to six points in a 27-6 victory that pushed the Raiders to 4-4.

The Raiders have allowed just 12 points over their last three games, all wins. The stretch includes a Week 8 win over Campbell County, 13-6, when quarterback Brody Smith connected with Cruze Sauley on a 43-yard touchdown pass.

Ryle can clinch the Class 6A, District 6 regular-season title with a win at Simon Kenton in Week 10. That result would also give the Raiders a chance at at least two home playoff games, according to LINK nky.

Simon Kenton (4-4) kept its own title hopes alive Oct. 16 with a 13-12 comeback win over Campbell County. The Pioneers trailed 12-7 with less than 10 minutes left before scoring the go-ahead touchdown with under four minutes remaining. Jackson Ober sealed it with an interception. A Simon Kenton win over Ryle would give the Pioneers a share of the district crown.

Head coach Mike Engler expressed confidence in August despite heavy roster turnover. "I think we're going to be pretty good. If we stay healthy, we've got a chance to be really good," Engler told the NKY Tribune in a preseason preview, when most starters from last year's 10-4 state semifinal team had graduated.

Boone County falls 49-3 to Dixie Heights

Boone County's rough stretch continued with a 49-3 loss to Dixie Heights on Oct. 16.

Dixie (4-5) led 34-3 at halftime and secured a home playoff game with the win. The Rebels have now dropped six consecutive games after falling to Scott 43-21 in Week 8.

Boone County hosts Cooper in Week 10.

Conner idle, faces key matchup at Scott

The Conner Cougars had a bye in Week 9. They travel to Scott in Week 10 with the No. 3 district seed at stake.
