Florence residents can donate blood close to home when the city partners with Hoxworth Blood Center for a community blood drive on Thursday, Oct. 8.
Every donor will receive a Hoxworth wearable blanket, the center's standard gift for October drives, the city announced on X. A specific venue and time for the Florence drive have not been posted. Residents can check Hoxworth's scheduling portal at donateblood.uc.edu or contact the city for details.
About Hoxworth
Hoxworth Blood Center, a division of the University of Cincinnati, is the oldest operating blood bank in the country, founded in 1938. The center serves more than 30 hospitals and medical centers across the region and collects more than 100,000 units of blood products each year.
The center says it needs 450 blood and platelet donors every day to meet demand. A single whole blood donation can help save up to three lives, according to Hoxworth.
Donating in Northern Kentucky
Hoxworth's Northern Kentucky service area covers Boone, Kenton and Campbell counties, including Florence and Independence, according to its website.
For residents who cannot make the Oct. 8 drive, the nearest permanent donation site is the Hoxworth Neighborhood Donor Center in Fort Mitchell at 2220 Grandview Drive, Suite 140. That location is open seven days a week.
Hoxworth operates seven Neighborhood Donor Centers across the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area.
