Marlin Hensley, 75, of Union was killed Thursday morning, Oct. 29, after a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Hathaway and Sullivan roads in Union.
The Boone County Sheriff's Office said deputies were dispatched to the scene at about 9:59 a.m. for an injury collision with extrication, according to Local 12.
Hensley was a front-seat passenger in a 2021 GMC Yukon driven by Ronald Wolfe. The Yukon was traveling westbound on Riddles Run Road and had stopped at a stop sign at the intersection with Hathaway Road, also known as KY 536, according to Major Phillip Ridgell with the sheriff's office, as reported by Fox 19.
A 2021 Dodge Ram 3500 truck pulling a trailer, driven by 31-year-old Zach Wilzbach of Walton, was heading eastbound on Hathaway Road toward the same intersection.
Roadway evidence and witness statements indicate Wolfe turned left from the stop sign onto Hathaway Road and pulled directly into the path of Wilzbach's oncoming truck and trailer, the sheriff's office said.
Reports differed on Hensley’s transport and where he was pronounced dead. Local 12 reported that Union EMS was taking him to Union Fire Station No. 2 for an AirCare helicopter when he was pronounced dead before arrival. WLWT reported that he died before reaching the fire station. Fox 19 reported that he was flown to a hospital and pronounced dead upon arrival.
Wolfe was taken by Burlington EMS to UC Medical Center with severe but non-life-threatening injuries. Wilzbach was not injured.
The sheriff's office Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash. Speed, alcohol and drug impairment are not believed to be factors but will still be investigated, the sheriff's office said, according to Local 12. No charges have been filed, and all parties are cooperating with the investigation.
