Florence drivers should plan alternate routes on Nov. 15 when the 12th annual Honor Run Half Marathon winds through the city.
Road closures will begin at approximately 6:30 a.m. and last until approximately 11 a.m., according to the City of Florence. The city is asking motorists to review the race route and closure details in advance.
The race, officially the St. Elizabeth Healthcare Honor Run Half Marathon, includes half marathon, 10K and 5K distances. It starts and finishes at Florence Mall, 2028 Florence Mall, according to Tri-State Running Company's event listing.
Where closures hit hardest
The city published a detailed closure list listing dozens of intersections affected. Major closures include:
- Mall Road at Plaza and Florence Mall access roads: closed
- Houston Road at Turfway, Spiral, Ted Bushelman, Meijer and several other cross streets: closed
- Turfway Road at Thoroughbred Boulevard, Hansel Avenue and Aero Parkway: closed
- Aero Parkway at KY 18: Aero closed, but KY 18 stays open
- I-75 southbound Exit 182: closed
- Mall Road at I-75: restricted to I-75 entrance and south Mall Road exit only
Drivers heading to St. Elizabeth Florence should note that the Houston Road and Hansel Avenue intersection will be closed. The hospital can be reached via westbound Turfway Road only during the race, according to the city's closure document.
Supporting veterans
The event supports Honor Flight Tri-State, which flies veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials built in their honor. The trip is free for participating veterans.
The race started in 2014. The event listing credits the race with approximately $430,000 in donations, helping send 800 veterans to Washington. The race listing says those funds help send veterans who served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Honor Flight Tri-State says it has flown more than 7,500 veterans total.
Race day details
Packet pickup is scheduled for Nov. 13 and Nov. 14, according to Tri-State Running Company's listing. Specific hours and locations had not been announced as of the listing's publication.
The city said it "appreciates the community's patience and cooperation as runners make their way through the city."
