Boone, Campbell and Kenton county residents can drop off old TVs, oil-based paint, pesticides and other hazardous household items at Thomas More Stadium in Florence on Saturday, Nov. 7.

The Northern Kentucky Solid Waste Management Area (NKSWMA) will host the annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event at the stadium, 7950 Freedom Way, according to the City of Florence. The event gives residents a way to safely dispose of materials that should not go in regular trash.

Registration is required before attending. Residents should print and complete the registration form beforehand and bring it to the event, and review the full list of accepted items at nkyhhw.org.

The event accepts electronics, oil-based paint, aerosol cans, household cleaners, pesticides and poisons, corrosives, flammables and fuels, certain batteries, cylinders and tanks, smoke detectors and light bulbs. Electronics covers anything that takes a battery or has a cord, with a limit of two TVs. Oil-based paint has a limit of 10. Large appliances such as refrigerators are not accepted.

Latex, acrylic and water-based paints are not hazardous and will not be accepted. Residents can dry them out using paint hardener, cat litter, concrete mix or shredded paper, then toss them with the lid removed. Alkaline batteries, including AAA, AA, B, C, D and 9V, are safe for regular trash. So are incandescent and halogen light bulbs. Ammunition, fireworks, explosives, nitrocellulose and commercial-grade gases are also prohibited.
