Ryle High School's girls soccer program is turning its preseason tournament into a food-insecurity fundraiser, challenging rival teams and their fans to a donation competition benefiting GO Pantry before Boone County classes resume August 19.

The Soccerama fund drive launched July 31, and runs through August 8. The Ryle Lady Raiders are hosting 18 teams for nine matches during the two-day tournament August 7–8 at Ryle High School, 10379 US-42 in Union. Fans can make monetary donations on behalf of their favorite participating team in an inter-team fundraising challenge.

The program said on its Soccerama donation page that the tournament provides a platform to make a meaningful difference for children facing food insecurity, and asked for monetary donations via Venmo or credit card directly to GO Pantry.

GO Pantry, a Florence-based nonprofit co-founded in 2012 by Beth McIntire and Laura Dumancic, provides food to children who rely on the Free and Reduced Lunch Program during the school year but lose that primary food source when school is out. The organization now serves more than 1,300 kids weekly across over 100 schools in 11 districts spanning six Northern Kentucky counties, according to gopantry.org.

Demand is climbing. GO Pantry reports requests for help have jumped 30%, driven by rising grocery prices and inflationary pressure.

The drive's August 8 deadline falls 11 days before Boone County Schools' first day of classes. That gap between summer break and the return of school meals is when food-insecure students are most vulnerable.

Speaking about GO Pantry's broader mission in a Northern Kentucky Tribune article published July 28, co-founder and finance manager Laura Dumancic said: "One of our biggest responsibilities is to be a voice for the kids we serve." She added that events like these give the wider community a chance to hear about GO Pantry's work and feel motivated to help.
