Publix Super Markets will open a 58,817-square-foot grocery store at 8740 US 42 in Florence on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 7 a.m.

The store, officially named the Publix Super Market at Farmview Commons, will be the Lakeland, Fla.-based chain's third location in Northern Kentucky. An adjacent Publix Liquors will open the same day at 9 a.m., LINK nky reported.

The Florence City Council approved the development in January 2024 by a 3-1 vote. Council minutes show the plan called for a grocery store with an attached liquor store and drive-through pharmacy on an 11.82-acre site at the northeast corner of US 42 and Farmview Drive, plus two out lots for retail or restaurant use. Crosland Southeast represented the developer, Farmview Commons LLC, at the meeting.

One of those out lots is already spoken for. The council unanimously approved a concept plan change in October 2025 for a Bank of America branch at 8748 US 42, right next to the Publix.

The Farmview Commons site straddles the Florence-Union city line. One out lot falls within Union's limits, and the Publix developer agreed to reimburse Union $20,000 for repaving and striping Farmview Drive, according to Union City Commission meeting minutes from December 2024. Construction was scheduled to begin in April 2025.

Publix sought to fill about 140 positions at the Florence store, hosting walk-in interview events in August at the Hilton Cincinnati Airport hotel on Turfway Road, Local 12 reported. Full- and part-time openings included stocking clerks, meat cutters, deli associates and bakers.

Florence listed the Publix project in its 2024 Economic Development Report, which counted more than 2,000 businesses and a population of 33,129 in the city.

The chain opened its first Northern Kentucky store in Walton in March 2025 and a second in Cold Spring in June 2026. Locations in Independence and Union are under construction, though neither has announced an opening date.
