Florence firefighters and paramedics are handing out free ice cream sandwiches at Station #33 onAug. 13, the second stop in the department's rotating August community series.
The event at 3125 Ted Bushelman Blvd. is open to all ages, requires no registration and gives neighbors a chance to tour the station and meet the crews who respond to their calls. No start time has been announced. Residents can call Florence Fire/EMS at 859-647-5660 for details.
The department staffs 72 career personnel who responded to more than 10,700 incidents in 2024, including over 8,900 medical emergencies. The ice cream series gives residents a chance to meet those crews face-to-face at their neighborhood station.
The City of Florence announced the full schedule on X on Aug. 4, inviting residents to stop by their neighborhood fire station on Thursdays for a free treat. City Clerk and public relations administrator Melissa Kramer published a press release the following day describing the series as a family-friendly opportunity to meet neighborhood firefighters and learn about the department's operations.
The series follows a similar model to the Florence Police Department's "Popsicles with Police" stops at city parks every Thursday in July 2026.
As we reported Aug. 5, the series kicked off at Station #34 on Dream Street. Two stations remain after Thursday's event.
Remaining August ice cream stops:
- Aug. 20 — Station #31, 1152 Weaver Road
- Aug. 27 — Station #32, 7201 Industrial Road
Florence Fire/EMS is also accepting applications for its free 10-week Citizen Fire Academy, which begins Sept. 2 at Station #34, 8101 Dream Street. The academy gives residents a deeper look at fire and EMS operations over the course of the program.
