The Florence Police Department was scheduled to begin its Teen Academy on Wednesday, Oct. 21, giving area high schoolers a weekly look at how officers do their jobs.

The five-week program meets each Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the department's headquarters, 8100 Ewing Blvd., and runs through Nov. 18, WLWT reported. It is open to students in grades 9 through 12.

The curriculum includes DUI enforcement, crash reconstruction, crime scene investigation, drone operation, hostage negotiation, K-9 demonstrations and SWAT team operations, according to the city's announcement.

Space is limited.

The department said the academy gives students a chance to explore law enforcement careers and connect with Florence officers. Families can call 859-647-5420 for more information.
