Hebron's airport just landed a formal pipeline to Europe's largest network of aviation technology companies.
Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport CEO Larry Krauter signed a partnership agreement with Germany's GATE Alliance at the Farnborough International Airshow, which ran July 20–24 in the United Kingdom, according to LINK nky. The deal opens CVG's 7,700-acre campus to more than 120 European aviation and aerospace firms looking to test emerging airport technologies in a real-world U.S. setting.
In return, CVG gains access to GATE's supplier network in Germany, creating what Krauter called "a new transatlantic pathway for collaboration" that "strengthens connections between our region and one of the world's leading aviation markets."
The agreement came out of the Northern Kentucky aerospace delegation's trip to Farnborough, where BE NKY Growth Partnership, CVG, L2 Aviation, and FEAM Aero pitched Boone County's cargo infrastructure to global companies earlier in the week.
What the deal means locally
Under the partnership, GATE member companies can pilot new equipment and software at CVG before bringing products to the broader U.S. market. The airport already hosts DHL's North America super-hub and Amazon Air's cargo hub, giving technology vendors access to one of the country's busiest freight operations.
For Boone County, the arrangement positions CVG as a testing ground that could attract European suppliers to set up local operations or hire regional workers. Kentucky's aerospace sector already employs more than 23,000 people across more than 100 facilities, and aerospace products and parts were the state's top export in 2025 at more than $23 billion, according to BE NKY.
What comes next
Both organizations will form a working group to identify specific collaboration projects. No timeline has been set.
CVG and GATE Alliance plan to reconvene at GATE FUTURE 2026, the consortium's 10th-anniversary innovation conference, at CCH Congress Center Hamburg on Oct. 21–22. CVG Chief Innovation Officer Brian Cobb is scheduled to deliver a keynote there. The conference program describes Cobb as having led CVG to become the first airport in the world to trial and deploy several emerging technologies across the airport's Innovation, IT, and Customer Experience divisions.
The GATE Alliance, founded in 1992 and headquartered in Hamburg, bills itself as the world's largest airport technology supplier network. Its members will now have a direct testing lane at Boone County's busiest economic engine.
