Two Boone County residents will continue shaping statewide education policy after Gov. Andy Beshear reappointed them to the Kentucky Board of Education on Aug. 1.

Julia Pyle of Florence and Randolph Poe of Union will each serve new terms expiring April 14, 2030, according to the NKY Tribune. Both were already serving on the board.

Pyle is president of Parent Camp Inc. Poe is executive director of the Northern Kentucky Education Council, a nonprofit based at 7310 Turfway Road in Florence. He holds a doctorate in education and has previously served on the NKU Alumni Board of Directors.

The reappointments matter locally.

The Kentucky Board of Education sets statewide education policy and administrative regulations that govern every public school district in the commonwealth. Under Kentucky law, local school boards must operate consistent with the state board's regulations. That means decisions Poe and Pyle help make in Frankfort ripple into Boone County classrooms.

The reappointments keep at least two local voices on the state body that oversees curriculum standards, school accountability measures, and Kentucky Department of Education operations. Other Northern Kentucky-area members include Jamie Apgar and Teresa Loman Hunter.

Beshear announced the education board reappointments alongside several other Northern Kentucky appointments. Michelle Snodgrass-Deimling of Cold Spring, a private practice attorney and former commonwealth's attorney for the 17th Judicial Circuit, was named to the Northern Kentucky University Board of Regents for a term expiring Sept. 10, 2031. Victoria Grooms of Newport, director of admissions at Per Scholas, was reappointed to the NKU Board of Regents for a term expiring June 30, 2032.
