Boone County travelers will soon be able to fly direct to San Francisco without a layover, after United Airlines announced it will launch daily nonstop service between Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and San Francisco International Airport on Oct. 25.

The route is projected to generate $36.4 million in economic impact for the Cincinnati region, according to WLWT. Tickets went on sale Aug. 6.

San Francisco becomes United's sixth nonstop destination from CVG, joining Chicago, Houston, Denver, Washington Dulles and Newark. United last operated the CVG-to-San Francisco route in 2020 before discontinuing it.

"Nonstop service to San Francisco gives travelers greater access to one of the nation's leading centers for business, technology and tourism, while strengthening CVG's role in connecting our community to key destinations across the country as well as to key international destinations," Chad Summe, chairman of the Kenton County Airport Board, said in a statement.

United will fly the route on a Boeing 737-800 with 166 seats, split between 16 in first/business class and 150 in economy plus and economy, according to a JobsOhio press release. Flights will operate daily with one departure in each direction.

The route is backed in part by the JobsOhio Air Service Restoration program, which uses revenue-guarantee incentives to encourage carriers to serve markets in the region. Financial details of that guarantee were not disclosed.

San Francisco had been one of CVG's largest underserved markets, according to the announcement. The connection also opens a gateway to destinations across Asia through United's San Francisco hub.

Mark Weithofer, managing director of domestic network planning at United, said the route gives tri-state travelers direct West Coast access and convenient Pacific connections.

Lee Crume, president and CEO of BE NKY Growth Partnership, said the direct link to a major tech and business market strengthens the region's ability to attract companies and talent.

CVG, located in Hebron, welcomed 9 million travelers in 2025 and carries an annual economic impact of $12.2 billion on the local economy.

Tickets are available now. The first flight departs Oct. 25.
