Toddlers and preschoolers in Boone County can see live salamanders up close at a free program next month in Florence.
The University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension's Boone County office is hosting its next "Little Explorers" session on Sept. 21 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at 7111 Dixie Highway. The class is open to children ages 2 to 5, and registration is required.
The session marks a change from the series' usual format. Previous Little Explorers classes took children outdoors, but this one brings nature inside the classroom. According to the extension office's announcement, children will observe several salamander species up close, learning about their unique shapes, patterns and colors.

The Little Explorers series gives young children a chance to explore and socialize through hands-on nature activities at the Boone County Extension Florence office, which serves families across Boone County with educational programming tied to UK's Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment.
