Boone County residents can haul old TVs, dead batteries and leftover pesticides to Thomas More Stadium in Florence on Saturday, Nov. 7, and get rid of them for free.

The Northern Kentucky Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event runs 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the stadium, 7950 Freedom Way, home of the Florence Y'alls. The annual event, hosted by the Northern Kentucky Solid Waste Management Area (NKSWMA), is open to residents of Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties at no cost, Link NKY reported.

Registration is required. Residents can print and complete a form at nkyhhw.org.

The event collects items that should not go in regular household trash. Accepted materials include electronics such as TVs, computer monitors, laptops, printers, cell phones and e-cigarettes, with a limit of two televisions per household. Oil-based paint is accepted with a limit of 10 containers.

Other accepted items, according to the NKSWMA event page, include:

  • Pesticides, herbicides, insecticides and pool chemicals
  • Household cleaners and aerosol cans
  • Automotive fluids, fuel, antifreeze and used oil
  • Lithium-ion, nickel-cadmium, nickel-metal-hydride and lead-acid batteries
  • Propane tanks, fire extinguishers, oxygen and helium cylinders
  • Smoke detectors and fluorescent, CFL and LED light bulbs

Standard alkaline batteries (AAA, AA, B, C, D and 9-volt) are not accepted. The NKSWMA says those are safe to throw in regular trash.

Several common items are also turned away: latex paint, tires, appliances, fertilizer, medications, ammunition, fireworks and explosives. Latex paint is water-based and not considered hazardous. The NKSWMA advises drying it out and tossing it in the trash with the lid off.

The collection has returned to Thomas More Stadium each fall since at least 2022. Florence City Council minutes from October 2025 show the event was promoted at a council meeting. Boone County Fiscal Court minutes from October 2023 describe it as a regional event shared with Kenton and Campbell counties.

The Nov. 7 collection is the only announced date for 2026.
