Conner rolled past Boone County 55-14 on Friday, Oct. 2, turning the Rebels’ homecoming into a blowout. The Class 5A, District 5 win now sets up a Thursday district clash in Hebron.

The Cougars jumped out to a 21-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and stretched it to 41-7 at halftime, according to Link NKY. The running clock kicked in with 8:02 left in the third quarter.

The rout was on early.

The win improved Conner's record to 2-5. Boone County dropped to 2-4, its fourth straight loss.

Conner hosts Dixie Heights on Thursday, Oct. 8, in Hebron in a district game where the winner likely earns the No. 2 seed and a home playoff game. Boone County heads to Scott the same night, where the loser faces elimination from the playoff picture.

Before Saturday's kickoff, Boone County retired the No. 44 jersey of Dave Trosper, a former Rebels player and 18-year Conner coach who died in June 2025 at age 55. The ceremony also honored the 40th anniversary of Boone County's 1986 Class 4A state at-large championship team, of which Trosper was a key member. Former players from that squad returned to the field, WLWT reported.

Conner head coach Chase Floyd, who has been on the Cougars' staff since 2018, took over the program after Trosper's death. Floyd and Trosper both graduated from Boone County.

"Every day I think about him … Both of us actually graduated from Boone. So, it's a little bittersweet to be here," Floyd told WLWT on Saturday night during the pregame ceremony.

Floyd's Cougars had just one other win this season, a 41-14 victory over Newport Central Catholic. Junior quarterback Ethan Estvanko threw for 200 yards and three touchdowns in that game while rushing for 81 yards and another score.

For Boone County, the losing streak puts preseason goals in jeopardy. Head coach Dan Court told the NKY Tribune in a July 31 preseason preview that hosting a playoff game was the team's top priority after making the postseason for the first time since 2018 last year. The Rebels lost to Woodford County 54-7 in the first round.

Cooper also picked up a district win Saturday, beating Dixie Heights 25-13, further tightening the District 5 race.

Both Conner-Dixie Heights and Boone County-Scott kick off Thursday, Oct. 8.
