Two Florence Police Department officers will take their oaths of office for new ranks at the City Council Caucus on Tuesday, July 21.

Derek Jackson will be sworn in as police sergeant and Caleb Saalfeld as police corporal at the 6 p.m. meeting at the Florence Government Center, 8100 Ewing Blvd., according to the caucus agenda published by the city on Monday, July 20.

The promotions mark the second round of rank advancements in about seven months. At a special meeting on December 16, 2025, the department swore in five officers to new positions: Tim Crowley to lieutenant, Ben Kolkmeier and Zac Eagler to sergeant, and Jacob Whitford and Tyler Jackson to corporal.

The department's current command staff includes Captain Nathan Rettig as administrative commander, Captain Mike Geis as patrol commander, and lieutenants Roger Allen, Tim Crowley, and Erik Daniels, according to the city's website.

Cruiser donation discussion

Also on the July 21 agenda, Chief Jeff Mallery will present a discussion on donating a police cruiser to the Madison County Schools Police Department, a school district law enforcement agency based in Richmond, about 80 miles south of Florence.

The agenda does not specify the vehicle's make, model, or year. The item is listed as a discussion, meaning no formal vote is expected at the caucus.
