Florence City Council takes its final vote Aug. 11, on a fenced playground for children with autism at an Ewing Boulevard therapy clinic and a 92-vehicle commercial truck lot along I-71/75.

The council meets at 6 p.m. at the Florence Government Center, 8100 Ewing Blvd., for second-reading votes on two ordinances that passed their first readings Aug. 2. Under Kentucky law, a second reading is the decisive vote.

Autism clinic playground

Ordinance O-19-2026 would allow Already Autism Health to build a fenced playground for children with special needs in the front yard of its 2.174-acre site at 7627 Ewing Blvd. The clinic offers Applied Behavior Analysis therapy on site and in homes, according to its website, and serves families across the region with clinic-based and home-based programs for children with autism.

The approval carries a condition: if Already Autism Health leaves the location, the fence must come down. The playground would be a special dispensation within the site's Office Two/Planned Development zoning district, which does not typically permit front-yard fencing of this kind.

Truck and vehicle lot

The second ordinance, O-20-2026, would green-light a commercial parking area for Mackenzie And Paige Logistics, LLC, on roughly 1.7 acres along the east side of I-71/75 between Tanners Gate Lane and Tanners Lane, immediately west of 7900 Tanners Gate Lane. The lot would hold 21 box trucks, 21 semi-tractors and 50 passenger vehicles.

That zoning change also comes with a restriction: it cannot transfer to a future property owner, meaning a new buyer could not inherit the commercial-parking approval without seeking fresh council action.

Lease agreement with Boone County

A new agenda item not part of prior readings is Municipal Order MO-17-2026, which would authorize Mayor Julie M. Aubuchon to sign a lease agreement between the city, through the City of Florence Public Properties Corporation, and Boone County as tenant. The meeting agenda does not detail the lease terms, duration or purpose of the tenancy.

The Aug. 11 meeting is open to the public. The next Florence City Council caucus meeting is scheduled for Aug. 18, at 6 p.m. at the Government Center.
