Florence residents heading to the Government Center on Tuesday, July 21, will find an agenda that touches zoning, roads, policing, and the city's first-in-Kentucky transportation district.
The caucus meeting begins at 6 p.m. at 8100 Ewing Blvd. Because caucus sessions are working discussions rather than formal votes, final action on the items below is expected at the Tuesday, July 28, business meeting.
Two development proposals
Director of Community Development Todd Morgan will present two zoning items forwarded by the Boone County Planning Commission:
- Commonwealth ABA, which operates as Already Autism Health: A concept development plan for roughly 2.17 acres at 7627 Ewing Blvd., in a mixed-use zoning district along the Ewing Boulevard corridor. The planning commission recommended approval with conditions.
- Mackenzie and Paige Logistics LLC: A change of concept development plan for about 1.7 acres along the east side of Interstates 71/75, between Tanners Gate Lane and Tanners Lane. The planning commission also recommended conditional approval.
Transportation Improvement District board
Public Services Director Eric Hall will lead discussion on appointments to the Transportation Improvement District Board of Trustees. Florence became the first Kentucky city to create a TID when the council voted 4-2 in February 2025. The board requires five voting members, all Florence residents, plus one non-voting member from the Boone County Planning Commission.
"I wish it wasn't necessary to form a TID to have access to this opportunity, but the law requires that we do," Hall said in February 2025 when the council approved the district. "This doesn't have any component at all to allow us to tax our community to fund this specifically."
Hall will also present items related to road design and state reimbursement for work on Hopeful Road and Sebree Drive, which has been identified as a high-priority TID project area.
Other items
- Two Florence Police Department officers will take their oaths of office: Derek Jackson, promoted to sergeant, and Caleb Saalfeld, promoted to corporal. Police Chief Jeff Mallery will also present a proposal to donate a surplus cruiser to the Madison County Schools Police Department.
- Mayor Julie M. Aubuchon will discuss an Urban Forest Commission appointment. The council will also recognize Florence-based law firm Busald Funk Zevely, PSC, located at 226 Main St., on its 50th anniversary.
