Florence residents can drop off food at the Government Center starting Monday, Nov. 2, to help stock Thanksgiving supplies for Boone County families in need.
The City of Florence food drive runs through Tuesday, Nov. 17, according to the city's website. Donations go to the Florence Government Center lobby at 8100 Ewing Blvd. during regular business hours. All collected items will be distributed by Boone County Family Resource Centers to local families.
The city's website describes the effort as an annual drive. No details on how many families the Resource Center served in prior years were available.
The city is asking for shelf-stable staples. According to the city's official flyer, the full list of needed items includes:
- Peanut butter
- Canned fruit
- Fruit cups
- Applesauce cups and pouches
- Canned tuna
- Canned chicken
- Dried beans
- Rice
- Tomato sauce
- Fruit bars
- Granola bars
The drive is the latest in a series of collection efforts the city has organized at the Government Center lobby. Florence partnered with the Boone County Kiwanis Club over the summer for a back-to-school supply drive at the same 8100 Ewing Blvd. location. That drive ran July 1–31 and collected new school supplies for Boone County High School students.
Residents who want to contribute have until the Nov. 17 deadline to bring items to the lobby.
Residents with questions can call the city's Administration Department at 859-647-8177 or visit florence-ky.gov.
