Cooper quarterback Zack Kostopoulos threw three touchdown passes to lead the Jaguars past Dixie Heights 25-13 on Friday, Oct. 2, in a Homecoming win that kept Cooper unbeaten in district play.
The victory improved Cooper to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in Class 5A, District 5. Dixie Heights dropped to 2-5 and 1-1 in district.
Kostopoulos completed 20 of 29 passes for 205 yards with no interceptions, connecting with Carson Clark on a 6-yard score, Kaiden Savage on a 33-yard touchdown and Lincoln Maxey from 12 yards out. Savage's second-quarter catch was the highlight of the night. Link nky reported that Savage tipped the ball to himself while parallel to the ground.
"I saw it in the air. I've just gotta go make a play on the ball," Savage told Link nky after the game. "That's my job as a receiver …"
Running back Corey Freihofer added 121 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries. Dixie Heights senior Levi Gilliland rushed 30 times for 146 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.
Cooper head coach Adam Begley, in his first year leading the program after 12 years as an assistant, said the game plan was to take what the defense gave them. The win extended Cooper's district winning streak to at least 10 consecutive games over three seasons.
