The Finance Corporation of the Boone County Board of Education approved its August 2026 bill list and prior meeting minutes on Aug. 13, wrapping up routine monthly business six days before the first day of school.
The three-item meeting at 99 Center St. in Florence covered two action items: approval of the August 2026 corporate bill list and approval of minutes from the Finance Corporation's July 9 meeting.
The session then adjourned.
The Finance Corporation is a separate legal entity from the full Boone County Board of Education. It serves as the district's bonding and financial arm, meeting monthly at the Ralph Rush Professional Development Center.
The district reported approximately $67.83 million in cash on hand as of its July 9 full board treasurer's report. That figure reflected approximately $83.03 million in adjusted beginning cash, $15.71 million in receipts and $30.92 million in expenditures. The full board approved the treasurer's report 4-0, with board member Cindy Young absent and members Jesse Parks, Carolyn Hankins Wolfe, Julie Maddox and Karen Byrd voting in favor.
The district's tentative working budget for fiscal year 2027 stands at $373,535,244, or about $17,850 per student. Boone County Schools serves approximately 20,918 students across 26 schools in Florence, Union, Burlington, Hebron and surrounding communities.
The Finance Corporation met the same evening as the full Board of Education's regular meeting. As we reported Aug. 12, the full board's Aug. 13 agenda also included a tax rate presentation under the state's new proposal process.
That full board agenda listed a second reading of annual board policy updates. Superintendent Dr. Housewald told board members at the July 9 meeting that the annual updates follow a two-reading process, with the first reading presented in July and the second scheduled for August.
Students return to class on Aug. 19. The five-member board, chaired by Jesse Parks, has not publicly posted its next Finance Corporation meeting date, though the body typically meets the second Thursday of each month.
