Boone County Commissioner Jesse Brewer will join elected leaders from Campbell and Kenton counties for a public panel discussion on how county-level policy decisions affect local businesses and residents.

The Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce is hosting the Government Forum on Aug. 28, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Turfway Park Racing & Gaming, 7500 Turfway Road in Florence. The panel will also feature Campbell County Commissioner Tom Lampe and Kenton County Commissioner Beth Sewell.

The forum comes at a busy time for Boone County. The Fiscal Court approved a 30-acre residential rezoning off Utz Lane in May, and Florence's plan to annex unincorporated county land for a 340-unit apartment complex off US-42 drew public opposition in late July. A new Burlington manufacturing facility created 73 full-time jobs when it opened July 29.

The NKY Chamber said in a press release that county governments play a critical role in maintaining roads, supporting economic development, addressing housing, public safety and quality of life. The chamber's event listing identifies transportation, housing and health as discussion topics.

The event matters locally.

Boone County Judge/Executive Gary Moore has been vocal about the county's economic trajectory. "KOI Superior Walls' investment reflects the strength of Boone County's manufacturing base," Moore said July 30 at a ribbon-cutting for the new Burlington facility. "This project brings new jobs, supports the regional building industry and reinforces Boone County as a place where companies innovate, invest, expand and succeed."

Those growth questions sit at the center of what the three commissioners will address Aug. 28 in Florence.
