Boone County shoppers will soon have a local IKEA option on Mall Road, but don't expect meatballs or a maze of showrooms.
IKEA is opening a 4,200-square-foot "plan and order point with pick-up" at Florence Square, 7735 Mall Road, across from Florence Mall. The storefront sits between a Hallmark store and a nail salon, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer, which reported July 27, that new IKEA signage is already visible at the site.
The location won't function like a traditional IKEA. There's no full showroom, no marketplace section, and no Swedish Food Market. Instead, customers can meet with IKEA staff to plan larger projects like kitchens, bathrooms, and closet storage systems, then place orders for delivery or on-site pickup. Online shoppers can also select the Florence location as a pickup point at checkout.
Customers cannot take products home the same day. Everything must be ordered in advance.
IKEA U.S. first announced the Florence location on Nov. 12, 2025, with a target opening of spring 2026. That timeline has slipped. No firm opening date has been announced, though the Enquirer reported the store is "likely opening this year."
Susan Blackstock, IKEA's market manager for the Cincinnati area, said in the November 2025 announcement that the format is meant to make IKEA "more accessible" to the Cincinnati market.
The Florence store is part of a broader push by IKEA's parent company, Ingka Group, which announced in March 2026 plans to open 20 small-format stores across Europe and North America. The company called it part of a €5 billion, three-year investment to expand into locations "where people already do their everyday shopping."
IKEA has operated in the Cincinnati market since 2008, when it opened its full-size store in West Chester, Ohio. The Florence location marks the company's first physical presence in Northern Kentucky.
