Boone County High School's 1,252 students head back to class on August 19, and organizers of a month-long supply drive say time is running out for residents who want to help them start the year equipped.
The City of Florence and the Boone County Kiwanis Club have been collecting new school supplies at the Florence Government Center Lobby since July 1.
The drive ends July 31.
Donations can be dropped off at 8100 Ewing Blvd., Florence, during regular business hours through that final day. Residents, businesses, and community organizations are all welcome to participate, according to the city's announcement.
What students need most
Organizers listed six priority items on the city's website:
- Headphones for ESL (English as a Second Language) students
- Composition books in red, green, blue, and black
- Plastic folders
- 1-inch to 2-inch binders
- 3- to 5-subject notebooks
- Pens and pencils
The headphones call-out signals a specific gap among BCHS's English-language learner population.
What's next
Boone County Schools' first day of the 2026-27 school year is August 19. The district's online registration opened July 1, and families are asked to complete it preferably before August 1.
