What changes on the Fiscal Court

The results change the membership of the four-member Fiscal Court, which consists of the judge/executive and three commissioners. Chet Hand, who held the District 2 seat, won the judge/executive race the same night. Schickel, a Union resident, will replace him. Flaig continues in District 1. Brewer ran unopposed in District 3.

Both winners take office in January 2027 and serve through December 2030. Voters elect all three commissioners countywide, even though each represents a geographic district.

Schickel's return

Schickel is coming back to public life after retiring from the Kentucky State Senate. He spent more than 45 years in government, including time as Boone County jailer and U.S. marshal for the Eastern District of Kentucky.

When he filed for the seat in November 2025, Schickel told the NKY Tribune, "Boone County is my home, and serving this community has been the honor of my life."

Outgoing Judge/Executive Gary Moore and Hand both endorsed his campaign, according to LINK nky.

Flaig's long tenure

Flaig has served on the Fiscal Court for much of the past three decades. First elected in 1998, she was the first Republican woman elected to countywide office in Boone County, according to LINK nky. She returned to the court in 2014 after an unsuccessful 2010 primary bid for judge/executive and has won reelection since.

Outside government, she and her husband, Bob, have operated Flaig Welding Company Inc. for more than 45 years.
