Miranda Mason, a community health coordinator with Public Health and Wellness, will speak to the Northern Kentucky Chapter of Kentucky Public Retirees at its monthly meeting Aug. 10, at Golden Corral, 4770 Houston Road in Florence.

The meeting runs from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is open to the public, according to a chapter announcement.

Mason's presentation will cover community health topics, though the chapter has not released specific details about the program. The July meeting featured a talk on Alzheimer's disease and its effects on senior citizens, followed by audience Q&A, using the same lunch-then-program format expected for the August gathering.

Who can join

Kentucky Public Retirees is a statewide nonprofit with roughly 3,200 to 4,000 members, and membership is open to anyone receiving a pension from the Kentucky Employees Retirement System, the County Employees Retirement System or the State Police Retirement System. That covers retirees from city, state and county governments, support staff from Kentucky's independent school systems and state universities, and state police officers. Spouses of qualifying retirees are also eligible.

Annual dues run $15, January through December. Applications are available at kentuckypublicretirees.org or at any chapter meeting.

You don't need to be a member to show up. The NKY Chapter meets the second Monday of each month at the same Golden Corral location.

What's ahead

The chapter's next meeting after Aug. 10 falls on Sept. 14, at the same time and location. The September speaker has not been announced.

Boone County's annual Senior Picnic is set for Sept. 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Boone County Fairgrounds. Tickets cost $6 per person and went on sale Aug. 3, at multiple locations including the Florence Government Building and the Union Government Building.
