A logistics company wants to park 42 commercial trucks on 1.7 acres along the I-71/75 corridor in Florence, and the city council moved the plan one step closer to approval at its July 21 caucus meeting.

Mackenzie and Paige Logistics LLC, based at 7900 Tanner's Gate Lane, is seeking permission under Resolution R-26-018-A to park 21 box trucks, 21 semi-tractors, and up to 50 employee vehicles on a site between Tanner's Gate Lane and Tanner Lane, immediately west of the company's existing office building. The site sits along the east side of the interstate, about 150 feet south of Tanner Lane.

The Boone County Planning Commission recommended approval unanimously with two conditions: no parking or storage of semi-trailers, trailers, or freight containers, and no loading or unloading on the site. The city's Planning and Zoning Committee added a third condition limiting the use to an accessory of the 7900 Tanner's Gate Lane office only.

Steve Hall, president and co-owner of M&P Logistics, addressed council and said he was committed to high-quality screening of the lot. Landscape architect Brock McGay of Viox & Viox told council that "nursery stock will be approximately six feet tall at planting, providing an immediate 8-to-10-foot screen when combined with the berm." The concept plan places semi-tractor parking closest to the interstate, box trucks in the center, and passenger vehicles on the sides, with a three-foot berm planted with arborvitae, hollies, and junipers. The existing chain-link fence along the interstate would be replaced with a horse-style rail fence matching other Florence ramps.

The property, zoned Commercial Two (C-2), does not normally permit motor freight terminals. A Planned Development exception is required. The former Morris Fitness building on the site was demolished between 2010 and 2012, leaving the parcel vacant for more than a decade.

Council members discussed the visual impact of parked trucks as seen from southbound I-75, the long-term effectiveness of the landscaping, and maintenance responsibility for Tanner's Gate Lane, which is primarily private. Members were encouraged to drive the corridor before the formal vote.

In 2024, Florence City Council unanimously approved a Kentucky Business Investment Program incentive for M&P Logistics to relocate operations within the city and create 120 new full-time jobs over 10 years.
