Unregistered Boone County residents have until 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, to sign up online if they want to vote in the Nov. 3 general election.

That deadline, set by the Kentucky State Board of Elections, applies three ways: online registration at govote.ky.gov must be finished by 4 p.m., mailed applications must be postmarked by Oct. 5, and in-person forms must reach the county clerk's office by close of business that day.

The Nov. 3 ballot carries local, state and federal races. Boone County voters will choose a mayor of Florence, six Florence City Council members, a mayor of Union, four Union city commissioners, a county judge-executive, a sheriff, a clerk and a Board of Education Division 4 member, according to Ballotpedia. State House and Senate seats are also up. A U.S. Senate race between Republican Rep. Andy Barr and Democratic nominee Charles Booker, competing to replace retiring Sen. Mitch McConnell, tops the federal ballot, the Courier-Journal reported.

Every Kentucky voter will also see a constitutional amendment question. Senate Bill 10, sponsored by Sen. Chris McDaniel, R-Ryland Heights, would bar a governor from granting pardons or commuting sentences starting 60 days before a gubernatorial election and lasting until the next governor is sworn in, WDRB reported. The restriction would first apply to the 2027 governor's race.

"At the transition of the last governor, we saw pardons that a lot of people found to be absolutely heinous after the election date had passed …" McDaniel told WDRB on Sept. 28.

As of August, Boone County had 105,690 registered voters, according to state registration statistics. Statewide, roughly 3.38 million Kentuckians were registered.

Residents who register by Monday's deadline will also have access to no-excuse early voting Oct. 29, Oct. 30 and Oct. 31, LINK nky reported. The absentee ballot request portal closes Oct. 20. Voters casting ballots in person need a photo ID such as a driver's license, government-issued ID, U.S. college student ID or military ID.

The Boone County Clerk operates two offices where residents can register or check their status. The Burlington office at 2950 Washington Square is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday. The Florence office at 8100 Ewing Blvd. keeps the same Monday hours. Residents can also register or verify their status online at govote.ky.gov.

Polls on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, open at 6 a.m. and close at 6 p.m.
